Why Energy Alone Isn’t Enough (And What Actually Works)

Ever felt full of energy, but still not getting anything important done?
Yeah, me too.
There was a time I’d wake up feeling great, inspired, pumped… and somehow end the day without touching the one thing that really mattered. That’s when I realised something that changed how I approach motivation forever:
Energy alone doesn’t lead to action. Direction does.
This is the second big lesson I’m diving into as part of my Plan Be journey. If you’ve been following along, you’ll know that Part One of the system is all about getting into the zone—priming your body and mind to feel ready. But now, we’re going deeper.
The Problem with Just “Feeling Good”
Once you’re in the zone, what’s next?
Most people think that if they feel energised, they’ll automatically make progress. But that’s not true. What often happens is this:
We procrastinate.
We chase distractions.
We avoid the hard but meaningful stuff.
We might feel great... but still not do the thing we actually want to do.
Sound familiar?
What Changed Everything for Me: Vision + Identity
So here’s what I’ve learned (and honestly, what I keep re-learning every time I fall off track): feeling good isn’t enough. We need a vision that pulls us forward—and an identity that helps us show up consistently.
That’s where Part Two of Plan Be begins.
Let me tell you a quick story.
At first, my dream was simple: create a journal. Just that. A tool I could sell, maybe make some profit, and feel good about helping people.
Then… that dream grew.
I saw something bigger. A coaching method. A system. A movement. Something extraordinary.
But the bigger it got, the more tired I felt. Overwhelmed. Stuck in my head. I stopped taking action—not because I didn’t care, but because I was suddenly doubting myself. Thoughts like:
“I’m too late.”
“I don’t have time.”
“This is too big for me.”
Ever had those thoughts?
They’re brutal. And they sneak in even when your heart is full of purpose.
The Real Source of Motivation
Motivation isn’t hype. It isn’t loud music or coffee or morning routines (though those help). Real motivation comes from three things:
A vivid visionYou can see it. You feel it. It’s specific and alive in your mind.
Belief in your capability, remember your past wins. You know the obstacles and how to handle them.
Confidence, fake confidence. Real, grounded self-trust. Built by taking action and celebrating progress.
If even one of these is missing, motivation fades. That’s why your story—your vision of what’s possible—has to be something that moves you emotionally, not just intellectually.
So... What’s Your Real Why?
It took me a while to realize that my vision wasn’t really about money or followers.
What I truly wanted was to create something meaningful—something I’d be proud of even if no one saw it. Something rooted in value. In purpose. In the belief that I had something worth sharing with the world.
And when that vision is clear… everything else (the energy, the focus, the drive) starts to make sense.
So ask yourself:
"What am I trying to create that’s truly mine?""What would light me up even if no one applauded?""What would I do if I knew I couldn’t fail?"
Let your answers lead the way.
Tools That Help Me Refocus (Even on Tough Days)
Sometimes, even with a strong vision, I still feel stuck. That’s when I use three core tools:
Visualisation – I close my eyes and step into my dream. I live it in my mind.
Coaching Conversations – I coach myself like I’d coach a client:“What’s stopping me? “What’s my next step?”
Incantation – I speak powerful truths out loud:“I am the creator of something extraordinary. “I take action from purpose, not pressure.”
These reset me. They remind me who I am and why I started.
What If You Still Don’t Feel Motivated?
Let’s be real: some days, your “shadow self” shows up. That inner voice that says: “Let’s just rest a bit more. “It’s not urgent. I’ll start tomorrow.”
Don’t fight it. Recognise it. Then gently shift:
Change your environment.
Walk, breathe, shake off the energy.
Set a 5-minute timer and begin something small. (even where you are now, in bed? reading a book, listening to an audiobook, watching a training?) Do it with a timer
Even tiny actions can shift your state. Motivation isn’t a lightning bolt. It’s a spark you nurture through movement, clarity, and presence.
Final Thoughts: Your Dream Is Worth It
If you're reading this and you’ve been struggling to stay motivated, let me tell you something clearly:
You’re not lazy. You’re not broken. You’re just missing direction.
Once you reconnect to your vision—and remember who you’re becoming—motivation returns. It’s already inside you.
Your story isn’t over. It’s still unfolding.
And if you ever need help reigniting it, just start here:
Close your eyes.
Picture your future.
Ask: “What’s one small thing I can do today that future me will thank me for?”
Now do that. Then do it again tomorrow. That’s how we build a dream. That’s how we become.
